How long does it take to build a pool?
12-16 weeks plus planning and Building warrant see below:
Site Survey - Week 1
Once Scotia Pools have been chosen, your site needs to be surveyed in detail before the build. If your property is on a low water table and you would be surprised how many are you may need to resort to extra strengthening for your pool such as piles, but we can advise on this.
At this point we need to obtain planning permission and a building warrant that is very dependant on local regions 6-12 weeks is not unusual.
Choosing Finishes - Week 1 - 4
Now is the time to make decisions about pool shape, pool cover, tile finishes, surrounding tiles, stone or slates, filtration system, eco-options, landscaping and pool plant housing to create your final pool. It just isn't possible to take too much time on this. Get it right. The last thing anyone wants is a change of mind later on.
Excavation - Week 2 - 3 (Takes about 2 weeks)
The area that we have planning permission for will be fenced off for Health and safety reasons.
Digging the hole for your swimming pool takes approximately two weeks during which time heavy diggers and trucks will move the earth in your garden to create your pool. This is when it looks at its worst and this is the time when you need to remember the vision.
Pool shell - Week 4 - 5 (Takes about 1-2 weeks)
The concrete shell for your pool is then laid down. At Scotia Pools, we normally use a concrete foundation with block work walls or for complicated shapes we use a spray concrete method which allows us to create a shell that is hard, smooth and able to create seamless free from edges, if required.
Curing - Week 6 - 10 (Takes about 2-4 weeks depending on method)
Once down the concrete needs to cure for 14-30 days depending on the method in order to create a hard box this is completely solid so there's nothing to do on the actual pool whilst this is happening. However, the building any hard landscaping can be done during this time in order to minimise disruption once the pool is filled and working.
Pool Plant, Copings, Waterproof Render and Tiling - Week 11 - 15 (Takes about 2-4 weeks depending on method)
Once the curing is complete waterproofing, rendering and tiling or lining of the whole pool can be carried out, along with the copings around the edge of the pool in order to keep the pool clean.
This is when your pool really starts to look special and you can start to feel it all coming together. Landscaping and personalising your pool are when your individuality comes in and it now depends on what your budget is. The pool liner or tiles give the pool its character and daily, the advances make it look more like your dream.
Your pool plant equipment is installed and wired up to the pool ready for firing up once the water's in.
Pool is Filled, Testing and Handover - week 16 (About a week)
During this week your pool is filled, heated, tested for security and that everything is working exactly as it should be before a full and final handover. All that remains is for you to sit back, relax and start pouring the wine, beer or soft drinks for the kids.
So that's it. Overall, your pool should take between 12-16 weeks plus planning and building warrant to build depending on weather and any challenges encountered during the build process.
